Castle & Church
Of Roman settlements and queens
In the middle of the village, at the foot of the Burgfluh and visible from afar, the castle and church are enthroned. Built in the early Middle Ages, the castle was converted into a castle in the 12th century by the Barons of Strättligen. For many centuries, first the castle and later the castle served as a checkpoint at the important and sometimes fiercely contested access to the Simmental. Lombardy.
In the Museum Wimmis historic, the history of the village is told over the millennia: from the cave dwellers on the Simmenfluh, the Roman settlement on the Pintel or about the life and death in times of the plague. It also tells the story of early mountain tourism in Wimmis, as our village was a popular starting point for the ascent of the Niesen.
